Welcome to the doubloon and exp orb earning guide! Doubloons are the universal spendable currency in the "Soot Dwarf" world. While exp orbs are a form of non-spendable currency to earn upgrades.

In lore, doubloons are a standard coin used to trade and barter. The coins are issued by the government and are made out of a mix of gold alloy and other metals. The exact composition of the coin is unknown to the public to prevent counterfeits. Each coin has the symbol of The Hearth, the main religion of Dogma, stamped onto each side. You are allowed to portray your soot dwarves with doubloons in your deviations as they exist in lore.

Exp orbs, on the other hand, are non-canon in lore. Soot dwarves are unaware of the existence of experience orbs and they only serve to keep track of upgrade requirements. You cannot portray your soot dwarf gaining/interacting with exp orbs as they do not exist in their world.

Your soot dwarf can exchange doubloons for goods and services from NPCs and other artists. Doubloons are spendable currency, so whenever you use them, your total doubloon count decreases.

  • Doubloon exchange between members can take place here: link

  • The NPC Doubloon shop (for items for your soot dwarf) is here: link

Exp orbs are used for upgrade requirements. Some upgrades can only be unlocked once you have accumulated a certain total number of orbs. Exp orbs are non-spendable. When you apply upgrades to your soot dwarf, it does not take away from the total number of exp orbs that you have.

When Submitting a new deviation, make sure to format the number of doubloons and exp orbs correctly. It should look something like this, posted at the bottom of the description:

          Doubloons:

          7/28

          EXP orbs:

          7/150

The doubloon and exp orb icons can be found on deviantart by searching "sootdwarves" when adding emoticons to the description of your drawing. The emoticons are encouraged but not required on each deviation.

  • For doubloons, the first slot is the number of doubloons earned for this particular deviation, the second slot is the current number of doubloons you have (counting what you have traded off or spent).

  • For exp orbs, the first slot is the number of orbs earned for this particular deviation, the second slot is the total number of orbs you have (remember, exp orbs never subtract from their total!)

*You do not need to update every deviation with your current number of doubloons when you spend doubloons, you can just adjust the numbers for every new deviation you submit to the group.

*If you trade away doubloons you must subtract the number accordingly. If you spend 10 doubloons subtract 10 doubloons from your total.

How to Count Doubloons and EXP Orbs

Doubloons and EXP can be counted for almost every deviation you post! Just by drawing a colored picture (shading does not matter), you can earn both!

Both doubloons and exp orbs are counted the same when earning them through drawing. If you earn three doubloons for a drawing you also earn three exp orbs.

*All deviations submitted to the group must be colored (background doesn't matter) and PG 13 or milder. No NSFW content allowed.

*All deviations submitted to the group must have clean line-art or a lineless style. Please put some effort into your drawings. It doesn't have to be your best work, but just a colored over sketch will not cut it.

Here is what you can earn Doubloons and EXP orbs from:

*Any official soot dwarf full-body: 2 doubloons and 2 exp orbs

  • At least 80% of the soot dwarf must be visible

  • Must be a colored drawing

  • Must be original line-art, bases and previously used drawings do not count for doubloons

  • The soot dwarf must be somewhat detailed and recognizable. A good rule of thumb is, if you can't see the whites of the soot dwarf's eyes, it doesn't count for doubloons.

    • *eyes do not have to be visible if it is a drawing of their back

  • Additional doubloons may be earned based on the friendship tracker

*Any official soot dwarf headshot or half-body: 1 doubloon and 1 exp orb

  • The head must be visible

  • Must be a colored drawing

  • Must be original line-art, bases and previously used drawings do not count for doubloons

  • The soot dwarf must be somewhat detailed and recognizable. A good rule of thumb is, if you can't see the whites of the soot dwarf's eyes, it doesn't count for doubloons.

  • *eyes do not have to be visible if it is a drawing of their back

  • Additional doubloons may be earned based on the friendship tracker

*A soot dwarf not owned by you: This can vary wildly based on the friendship level of the two soot dwarves

*A shaded background: 3 doubloons and 3 exp orbs

  • Must be somewhat detailed

    • You cannot just place a soot dwarf on a flat surface with blue skies, be creative and put some effort into it

    • Must include at least five objects separate from your soot dwarf

      • this can include trees, furniture, rocks, or other elements

  • It is up to you to decide if you earned these doubloons or not. There are different levels of art skills, and it is just encouraged that you try your best.

*Any craft or animation: This is tricky to count doubloons for, so submit your deviation or pictures to the craft and animation folder to get a mod to count doubloons for you.

*A story: Every 200 words written for up to 1000 words earns you 1 doubloon and 1 exp orb

  • You can earn up to 5 doubloons per deviation for the story element

  • The story must be relevant to what is happening in the picture

  • You cannot post a story to the group without a colored drawing

*Total doubloons were changed to EXP orbs as of 6/19/2019. Total doubloons are now counted as exp orbs instead.
