
Starting Your Adventure
Welcome to Soot Dwarves! An ARPG all about exploring, world-building, and growing as an artist.
This world is filled with fantastic creatures, most of which haven’t been discovered before. As an artist, you’ll play as soot dwarves, a relatively small, intelligent species who learn more about the world as you do.
Soot dwarves have lived for countless centuries underground in a city called Dogma. The city spans about a 100 miles, and the cave it resides in spans hundreds more. Up until thirty years ago, this city was all that soot dwarves knew. Soot dwarves would be born, grow up, and work in these caves, sustaining themselves on beets and other vegetables. The city, which supplies its power from underground thermal vents, flourished. Soot dwarves are currently at a level of technology akin to the late industrial revolution.
Thirty-five years ago, when a new king came into power, an excavation project was implemented that explored abandoned tunnels. One of these tunnels led to a large doorframe covered in rocks. Once the rocks were removed, the outside world was revealed.
After discovering the outside world, it was discovered that soot dwarves have very sensitive DNA that mutates to best fit their surrounding. When spending time in a colder climate, soot dwarves found that their body would grow hair and other mutations to adapt. When spending time in a warmer environment, soot dwarves found that they were losing fur and growing scales.
Since then, there’s been a trickle of adventurers leaving their home city and traveling into the unknown. Small towns have been built, with the largest being Red Rock.
This is where your story begins. Your soot dwarf is a new adventurer, leaving their home for the very first time. The only thing they carry with them is a small knapsack, a dingy shawl, a memory from home, and an official adventurer’s license.
What will your new soot dwarf do? Will they travel the corners of the globe, making new discoveries? Or maybe they will fight monsters and explore ancient ruins. The choices are up to you!
All MYO Soot Dwarves start their adventure on the same foot. You can either depict your Soot Dwarf just on the outskirts of the gateway, or in Red Rock. Red Rock remains relatively close to Dogma in order to filter in natural resources, and there is a trolley that can take you back and forth without any travel time.

When your soot dwarf begins their adventure outside, they will start to undergo a transformation:

After a couple of hours of being outside, their eye color will start to change to the one on the MYO

Initially, their eyes will be very sensitive to the light​. It is recommended to start your adventure at night to help the eyes adjust.

After the color sets in, their eyes shouldn't be as sensitive, however, their night vision decreases considerably.

About a week after they start their adventure, they will lose their baby fluff​​

After two weeks of being outside, the MYO base color should fully be set in
