Make Your Own, Guide

Welcome to Soot Dwarves, we are so excited for you to join our group!

*In order to make your own soot dwarf, please follow this guide to the best of your abilities. Your application doesn't have to be perfect! If you are having any difficulties with your application, please let us know. We can always make exceptions to rules if you are struggling.

*As of right now, everybody gets 1 free MYO slot, so choose carefully. More slots will eventually be obtainable for free, this is just to encourage newcomers to develop and grow their character. All MYO characters must start as adults or young adults.

Soot dwarves look something like this:

They are mammalian creatures with three fingers on each hand and very short, coarse fur.

They sport a hard-shelled beak as well as a set of sharp teeth.

Their standard ear nubs (which can be upgraded later) can express a variety of emotions.

Their three toes, which are very flexible, are able to grasp onto objects. Soot dwarves are known for being expert climbers and can perch on tree branches like a bird.

Their height ranges anywhere from 3 feet to 4.

  • Their mouth wraps around their beak, meaning that they don't have lips.

  • Their gums and tongue start as pinkish hue.

  • Soot dwarves are omnivores and have both flat and sharp teeth. Imagine human teeth with numerous dog canines and dog molars.

  • Their jaws are powerful, and with the help of their beak they can easily break apart seeds and nuts.

  • Their arms are pretty straightforward, composed of an upper arm, elbow, and lower arm.

  • Soot dwarves don't have very defined wrists. The fat on their arms covers most of it up.

  • Their fingers are stubby and round

  • They have two fingers and a thumb

* The starting ear nubs can be stylized a bit as long as they match the same general size and shape

I apologize for how complicated soot dwarf legs are, just try and follow the example image as best as you can. We will be pretty lenient about leg anatomy, so just do your best.

  • Their legs are composed of two main parts

    • The upper "fatty" thigh

      • where most of the soot dwarves' power comes from when walking.

    • The lower "bird-like" limb

  • The two sections are connected by a kneecap

    • you can rotate the lower limb around this kneecap

    • allows the soot dwarf to sit

You are allowed to use any one of these colors as your base when designing a soot dwarf

  • You have to use the exact color code of these colors

    • You can either use the hex code or eyedropper tool.

  • Special event palettes may be available later on

Here's a MYO example

  • Each MYO comes with an item they take from home to start their adventure.

    • this item cannot be magical

    • it cannot be sold and give your dwarf a financial aid

    • the item can be lost and destroyed later on

    • the item cannot be a living thing/plant

    • the item cannot be a piece of high tech, such as a blender or a phone. Soot dwarves are roughly in the industrial age of technology.

    • the item must be smaller than a microwave

  • Each MYO can have two secondaries and one accent

    • You can have one lighter and one darker secondary

    • the accent can be any color (as long as it is not pure black or white)

    • the secondaries can only take up about 35% of the body

    • the accent can only take up about 10% of the body

    • The beak and toes must be the same color, the darker secondary. This can be color mixed later.

  • The eye color can be any color as long as it isn't pure black or white

    • the black line-art must be visible

  • The MYO drawing must be black line-art, and cannot be shaded

  • This must be done digitally

    • if you absolutely cannot do this â€‹â€‹digitally, let us know and we can try to work it out.

  • A front and a back view must be visible on the template

    • you can choose to either draw both the front and the back view by hand or use this template: here

    • If you use the template you must still draw your soot dwarf once by hand (as shown above)

Placements

  • Your soot dwarf can have up to 5 connected placements (counting both accents and secondaries)

  • The secondaries can take up to 35% of the base

  • The accent can take up to 10% of the base

  • The placements cannot make any intricate shapes or lines

  • The placements cannot touch or overlap

  • Two symmetrical placements still count as two placements, not one

When choosing secondaries, you can have one lighter and one darker secondary. Not two darker or two lighter.

The secondary colors must be the same hue as the base, and cannot be different variations

The secondaries cannot be too light or too dark. Basically, they cannot stray too far from the base.

The accent can be any color as long as it is not pure black or white

The darker secondary will be the color of the beak and the toes. No other placements can go over those areas.

Sectioned Parts

sectioned parts.png

Art by Nestly

Sectioned parts are specific placements on your soot dwarf that have to remain certain colors. They don't take up any of your "five" placements, but they do have certain rules.

The beak and toes must remain the same color. That color usually being your darker secondary. If you are using a special palette (ex: early bird palette) the beak and toe color may be one of the special secondaries.

The eyebrow color must be one color. The eyebrow color can be any color on your soot dwarf (besides eyecolor).
